SINGAPORE – A burst water pipe at a Housing Board block in Clementi caused water to leak into three lifts on Wednesday (Sept 13), with the Jurong-Clementi Town Council working with water agency PUB and contractors to fix the leaking water pipe joint.
Jurong GRC MP Tan Wu Meng shared photos of water pouring from the pipe, and also of water that had pooled on the floor.
The pipe that burst was for the water tap serving the wet riser pump room, a spokesman for the Jurong-Clementi Town Council told The Straits Times on Thursday.
The town council was informed at 2pm that there was water dripping inside one of the lifts. It activated its plumber, its maintenance contractor for water pumps, PUB and the lift company.
When PUB and the plumber arrived, they turned off the main valve and replaced the leaking joint, resetting the main valve to resume the water supply.
“As there was water found inside Lifts A, C and D, for safety reasons, we instructed the lift company to turn off the lifts at about 2.55pm,” said the town council spokesman.

Lift C was restored to power at 5.55pm after repair works, three hours after it was shut down.
The town council said it is working to restore two more lifts – Lifts A and D – to power on Thursday. Currently, residents can take only two lifts – Lifts C and B – to their homes.
The existing pipe joint will also be replaced with a sturdier pipe joint, expected to be completed by this Saturday.
